FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Whitworth Pirates split Sunday's Northwest Conference softball doubleheader at Pacific (Ore.) to close the 2025 season. The Whitworth bats came alive in a 6-3 game one win before the Boxers responded with a 5-0 win in game two.
With three wins in the series, Pacific (8-26 overall, 8-20 NWC) moved to sixth place in the conference standings, while the Pirates finished in seventh with a 6-22 conference record and 6-32 mark overall.
Game 1: Whitworth 6, Pacific 3
Whitworth recorded a season-high 13 hits and took advantage of defensive miscues to secure the win.
For the third time in as many games, the Pirates scored first. Kendel Sage opened the game with a single through the left side and a two-out error kept the line moving. Teeghan Reams took advantage and hit a towering three-run home run to left center field.
A pair of key two-out hits allowed Pacific to score three unanswered runs. In the second inning, Sydney Carter beat out a two-out ground ball that allowed a runner from third to score. After a walk and hit by pitch in the fourth, Jordan Ingram hit a two out, two-run double to knot the game at three.
Whitworth responded with a two-run fifth inning. Taylor Hofheins and Camryn Sage each singled to left field and Makena Hofford followed with a fielder's choice. Kelly Hruza dropped a base hit into right field and a misplay allowed both runners to score.
Katie McKinnis singled to start the sixth inning and Reagan Ellis reached on another Boxer fielding error. Hofheins, who led the Bucs with three hits in the game, roped an RBI double to deep center field that put the Pirates up 6-3. Momi Lyman pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning to secure the win.
Eight Pirates had a hit in the game and all nine reached base. Kendel Sage, Hofheins, Reams, and Hruza each recorded a multi-hit game.
Lyman (4-17) allowed three runs and six hits with six strikeouts in her 11th complete game of the season.
Peyton Davis pitched one inning in her ninth start of the season for Pacific. Karlie Espinoza (0-2) pitched 4.1 innings and allowed three runs on nine hits. Abby Surowiec recorded the final five outs.
Game 2: Pacific 5, Whitworth 0
The Boxers' late offensive surge backed a complete game shutout from Haleigh Colfelt.
The Pirates recorded two of their four hits in the second inning, each singles from Camryn Sage and Hofford. Ellis doubled in the third inning for her second hit of the game but was just one of two Whitworth batters to reach scoring position.
A sacrifice fly broke the series trend and gave Pacific an early 1-0 lead in the second inning. Reiss McIntyre held the Boxers to just one hit over the next 2.2 innings and Annie Brose came in to finish the fifth.
Pacific broke through in the sixth and took a commanding lead. A single and double put two runners in scoring position before Addie MacPherson's base hit scored both runners. Another RBI single and bases loaded walk gave the Boxers a 5-0 advantage that would not be trimmed.
McIntyre (1-8) pitched 4.2 innings and allowed one run and two hits with four strikeouts in her final start. Brose (four runs) and Reams each pitched 0.2 innings.
Colfelt (2-3) allowed four hits with no walks and no strikeouts in her first complete game of the season.
