PORTLAND, Ore. – The Whitworth track and field teams got a couple of event victories this weekend, but no personal records and no improvements on national qualifying marks as the season marches toward NCAA Division III selections.
Competing on Friday at the Oregon Twilight at Woodward Field in Eugene and on Saturday at the Portland Twilight hosted by Lewis & Clark, Camden Schmidt looked to improve on his school-record time in the 200-meter dash (21.26). He finished third in the 200 on Friday in 22.07 and was the event winner at L&C on Saturday in 22.04.
Jordyn Lungo raced in the women's 100-meter dash at Oregon on Friday night and took fifth in 12.57. She won the women's 200-meters on Saturday at L&C in 26.07.
Cooper Rolfs was the runner-up in the men's 400-meter dash at the Oregon Twilight with a time of 49.79.
The Pirates competed in four field events on Friday. Luke Davis was runner-up in the shot put with a mark of 49'-4.25". Madison Carr finished fourth in the women's javelin with a distance of 161'-11". Devyn Chelin finished fourth in the women's javelin (129'-10") and Cody Wheeler took fifth in the men's javelin (184'-4").
The final chance for Whitworth athletes to improve on their career and season marks before the NCAA Championships comes Wednesday at the George Fox Last Chance meet.
