Pirate women sweep Wildcats

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth Pirates earned a 7-0 sweep over short-handed Linfield in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match on Saturday at Scotford Tennis Center.

The Pirates advanced to 6-5 in the NWC (9-7 overall), while the Wildcats (1-12, 1-11 NWC) dropped their eighth straight match.

Two Linfield players were unavailable, resulting in just two doubles matches and four singles matches played. Whitworth took the doubles point with a pair of wins. Jordan Turner-Esposito and Clara Todd swept their opponent 6-0 before Faith Kert and Gracie Smyley paired for a 6-3 win.

Whitworth won each singles match to complete the match sweep. Smyley earned a 6-4, 6-2 win and Kert won her sixth consecutive match in the No. 2 position (6-3, 6-1). Turner-Esposito allowed just one set point in her win and Olivia Corbett dominated with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep. Todd earned and Audrey Judson were awarded wins by default.

The Whitworth women will host a senior day match against George Fox on Sunday at 10:00 am.
