Pioneers hold off Pirates despite Vincent's seven goals

SPOKANE, Wash. – Campbell Vincent broke her own school record for goals in a match, but Whitworth could not overcome a slow start and fell to visiting Lewis & Clark 20-16 in a Northwest Conference lacrosse match on Saturday afternoon in the Pine Bowl.

Vincent finished with seven goals and two assists, breaking the record for most goals in a match and most points in a single game.  She has previously scored six goals five times in her career and had eight points earlier this season.

The Pirates (5-7 overall, 2-4 NWC) fell behind 7-2 after one quarter and could not recover.  Sage Swegle had three of those goals for L&C (10-4, 3-2).

The Pioneers stretched the lead to 10-4 late in the first half before Vincent scored with 2:16 to play and Kenzie Hemman added a goal in the final ten seconds to get the Bucs within 10-6 at halftime.

L&C retook control with the first three goals of the second half, going up 13-6 on another goal by Swegle.  Swegle scored again late in the third before Sierra Witte ended the period with a goal to get Whitworth within 16-9.

Mack Searle scored for the Pioneers to start the fourth period, but the Pirates made a run with four straight goals to pull within 17-13.  Megan Whitman had three of those goals and the Bucs had a chance for a comeback with over ten minutes left to play.  But Swegle scored again and L&C's defense settled down.  Vincent's final goal got Whitworth within 19-16 with 3:19 to go in the game, but the Pioneers won the draw control and ran out much of the clock before scoring their final goal with a minute left.

In addition to Vincent's big day, Whitman tied a career-high with four goals and Witte had a career-best four assists to go with her two goals.  Hemman finished with 11 of Whitworth's 28 draw controls and Whitman had seven.  Sage Fosnock played 52 minutes in net for the Pirates and made four saves while giving up 18 goals.  Kayla Jones allowed the other two goals in eight minutes.

Swegle scored seven goals and had an assist for L&C, while Searle had three goals, two assists, four draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.  Kaitlin McRae made 12 saves while playing all 60 minutes for the Pioneers.

Whitworth will finish out the 2025 regular season at Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran next weekend.
