Men's tennis swept by ETBU

MARSHALL, Texas. – The visiting Whitworth Pirates were swept 7-0 by East Texas Baptist University on Tuesday afternoon in their second men's tennis match of a spring break trip to the lone star state.

The Pirates dropped to 3-9 overall (3-5 NWC) while the Tigers (8-2) earned their fourth straight match sweep.   

ETBU took the doubles point with three wins. Matt Hossack and Easton Weir put up the best fight in a 6-3 defeat. Landon LaBrie competed in his first doubles action of the season and fell 6-2 alongside Matt Froslan.

The Tigers won each singles match in two sets. Morrison fell 6-4 in both sets of the No. 1 match. Ryan Ashley fought to a 7-6 tiebreaking loss in his first set before falling in the second 6-3. Weir returned to lineup after a one game absence and fell 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 3 position. Froslan dropped his first set 6-3 and battled back to a tiebreaker in the second, but could not get to a third set (7-6 (7-2)).

Whitworth will play its final match in Texas against Mary Hardin-Baylor on Wednesday at noon (PST) in Belton.
