Pirates pound EOU 26-4 in WhitLax opener

SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth University exploded for a 26-4 win over visiting Eastern Oregon in the opening match of the 2025 WhitLax lacrosse classic on Saturday afternoon at the Pine Bowl.

The Pirates (1-2) set school records for goals and assists (14) in a single match.  The Mountaineers fell to 0-4 with each loss coming to a Northwest Conference opponent.

Whitworth outscored EOU 11-1 in the first quarter, setting a new standard for most goals in one period.  Sierra Witte scored the contest's first goal 31 seconds into the game.  Witte finished the period with three goals, as did Megan Whitman.

The Pirates were ahead 15-2 at halftime, outshooting the Mountaineers 32-3 in the first half, including a 22-3 edge in shots on-goal.  The Bucs broke away with nine more goals in the third quarter to lead 24-2 heading to the final period.

Kenzie Hemman led Whitworth with five goals in the match, a career-high total for her.  She also had a match-high nine draw controls. 

Witte, Whitman and Campbell Vincent scored four goals each.  Vincent had a career-high five assists to lead all players with nine total points. 

Defensively Peyton Green and Nikki Beers each caused three turnovers.  Green and Vincent led the Bucs with four ground balls apiece.

Whitworth finished with a 45-5 lead in shots, and won 23 of the 32 draw controls. 

The Pirates will conclude the tournament on Sunday with an exhibition contest against a club team from Montana State University.
