Football celebrates 2025 at annual banquet

12/9/2025 11:53:00 AM

Post-season awards were announced during the 2025 Dennis Spurlock Football Awards Ceremony this past Sunday afternoon at the Spokane Convention Center.  Over 350 players, coaches, families, girlfriends, and alums were able to enjoy a fabulous evening of food, reflection, and celebration.

Head Coach Rod Sandberg gave his 12th annual post season ''State of the WUFB Union" address, where he attributed an undefeated conference season, NWC championship, and NCAA Play-off appearance to this team's ability to embrace a growth mindset and live out its season theme of 'Hold the Rope.'  He concluded by issuing a statement as to the expectations for next season and that the bar has been set very high.

Each player had his name read out loud and came across the stage to receive a team picture and a handshake from a coach.  And, most importantly, 17 seniors were individually honored for their commitment to the program and for their leadership.  Three of those were fifth-year seniors.

Highlighting the many awards presented was the winner of the 2025 Torchbearer Leadership Award, the program's highest award – presented by Coach Mac Shaw to senior captain Lane Watkins.

Other winners included:

-          Northwest Conference Sportsmanship Award = Senior LB Hunter Letteer

-          Mind & Heart Academic Award = Senior CB Chris Knutson

-          12th Man Award:       Offensive scout player = Frosh WR Camden Collins / Defensive scout player = Frosh LB Carson Cody

-          MDM Special Teams POY Award = Junior Kicker Iden Bone

-          Team Player Award = Senior TE Taylor Wells

-          Committed to Excellence Award = Senior DB Trey Rose

-          "Hold the Rope" Season Theme Award = Sophomore LS Cash Cook

Also recognized were 19 All-Northwest Conference players and the team captains.

Following the award presentations, the season highlight video was played for the first time to the delight of the players and guests.

The evening concluded with Spiritual Coordinator and wide receivers coach, Todd Green, calling the graduating seniors up front to pray a blessing for them.
