Haley, Jones qualify for NCAA nationals at regional xc meet

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Whitworth University cross country teams both finished in seventh place and two Pirate runners assured themselves of a trip to the NCAA Division III championships next week during Saturday's West Region meet at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.

London Haley finished 10th in the men's race and Lily Jones took 13th in the women's competition to earn individual berths to the 2025 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships in Spartanburg, South Carolina next Saturday.

Haley led the men's team to a seventh-place finish by crossing tenth and running the eight-kilometer course in 25:32.7.  Colorado College's Will Shuflit won the men's race in 24:50.0.

Isaac Akiyama finished 26th for the Pirates in 26:09.0 to earn All-Region recognition.  He will have to wait and see if he also gets an invitation to next week's national meet.  The final individual bids will be announced on Sunday afternoon.

Alex McIntyre took 68th in 26:59.1 and Nick Baker was 73rd in 27:08.1. Tom McKee finished 89th (27:22.0) to round out Whitworth's top five.

The top ten men's teams were: Pomona-Pitzer 43, Colorado College 73, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 80, George Fox 95, UC Santa Cruz 149, Caltech 236, Whitworth 249, Trinity (Texas) 249, La Verne 277, Redlands 286.  There were 23 teams that posted a score.

Whitworth's women also finished seventh as a team, thanks to three All-Region performances.  Jones earned her trip to South Carolina by taking 13th place with a time of 22:31.5 over the six-kilometer course.  Alison Mueller-Hickler of Colorado College won the race in 21:28.0.

Ashlyn Dary crossed in 25th place with a time of 22:52.9, while Kezlie Thygesen finished 27th in 22:54.9.  The top 35 individual finishers in both races earn All-Region recognition.

Bethany Doggett took 82nd place in 24:34.8 and Reagan Rich was 91st (25:03.2).

The top-ten women's scores were: Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 33, Colorado College 83, Pomona-Pitzer 102, Trinity (Texas) 146, UC Santa Cruz 149, George Fox 152, Whitworth 224, Pacific (Ore.) 254, Occidental 261, Puget Sound 291.
