Whitworth XC teams each take second at NWC Champs

PARKLAND, Wash. – The Whitworth cross country teams each finished as Northwest Conference runners-up at the conference championship meet hosted by Pacific Lutheran on Saturday morning.  The Pirates finished one spot behind defending champion George Fox in each race.

In addition, Whitworth had the runner-up in each individual race and five Pirates earned All-NWC recognition.

Lily Jones and Kezlie Thygessen finished second and third, respectively, in the women's six-kilometer race.  Jones crossed the line in 22:41.5 with Thygessen right behind in 22:46.1.  Each earned first team All-NWC as a top-five finisher.  George Fox's Emily Foote won the race in 22:02.7.

Ashlyn Dary picked up second team All-Conference recognition by taking seventh place in 23:05.8. 

Bethany Doggett ran 24:28.8 for 27th place, while Reagan Rich finished 29th in 24:43.6.

The women's team scores are:  George Fox 41, Whitworth 61, Pacific (Ore.) 72, Puget Sound 87, Whitman 133, Lewis & Clark 150, Pacific Lutheran 199, Linfield 256, Willamette incomplete.  The Pirates improved on their third place finish from 2024.

London Haley took second place in the men's eight-kilometer race in a competitive head to head match up with Puget Sound's Cian Monaghan.  Monaghan crossed first in 25:16.2 with Haley second in 25:21.7.  Isaac Akiyama joined Haley as a first team All-NWC honoree with a fourth-place finish in 25:44.2, less then four seconds behind third.

Alex McIntyre was the next Pirate man across the line, finishing 21st in 26:30.9.  Nick Baker was 24th in 26:47.1 while Nolan McLaughlin was 29th in 27:05.5.

The final men's team scores are: George Fox 37, Whitworth 77, Willamette 92, Lewis & Clark 102, Whitman 120, Puget Sound 148, Pacific (Ore.) 152, Pacific Lutheran 220, Linfield 272.

The Pirates will have a week off before returning to action on November 15th at the NCAA West Region Championships in Claremont, California.
