SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth might have controlled possession, but the Pirates could not translate that into a goal and settled for a 0-0 draw against visiting Pacific (Ore.) in a Northwest Conference men's soccer match on Sunday.
The Pirates are now 3-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the NWC following their conference-opening weekend. Pacific is 4-3-1, 2-1-1.
The visiting Boxers had the best looks in the first half, forcing Whitworth keeper Aidan Chase to make both of his saves. One was a diving save to his left on a shot by Adam Landy. Pacific had a 4-2 edge in shots in the first 45 minutes.
The Pirates controlled much of the second half, outshooting the Boxers 8-1, including a 3-0 edge in shots on-frame. Zach Aderinto stopped all three attempts for Pacific.
Whitworth ended the match with a possession advantage of 59% - 41%.
The Pirates will return to action on Wednesday evening at Whitman College. The season's first Battle of Whits will start at 5:30 pm.
