Jimenez leads Pirates to sweep of George Fox

SPOKANE, Wash. – Nothing could stop Whitworth outside hitter Ella Jimenez in a 3-0 sweep of visiting George Fox on Saturday night in a Northwest Conference volleyball contest.

Jimenez had 17 kills and hit .615 with only one error in 26 attacks to help the Pirates improve to 10-2 overall and 2-0 in the NWC with the 25-11, 25-11, 25-14 victory.  The Bruins, who defeated Whitworth in two of three meetings last season, fell to 5-6, 1-1.

None of the sets were ever close.  The Pirates hit .364 in the first frame, .462 in the second and .556 in the third to post a season-best team hitting percentage of .442.  George Fox's only lead in the entire match was 1-0 in the third set.

Jimenez added three service aces and a block assist for 20.5 points in the contest.  The Bruins scored 26.0 points as a team.

"I think Ella felt she didn't play to her standard last night against Pacific," said Pirate head coach Kati Bodecker.  "She wants to be a good leader for this team and a consistent six-rotation player.  It was really fun to watch it all come to fruition tonight."

Megan Lange (11 assists) and Josephine Thompson (11) combined for 22 assists to direct the efficient offensive attack.  Libero Taylor Miche added eight assists and a team-high 10 digs to go with two service aces.

Alexis Baer and Gracie Bearden had five kills apiece to lead the Bruins.  But George Fox had as many errors (22) as kills in the match for the .000 hitting percentage.

Whitworth will host Whitman on Tuesday night in the season's first Battle of Whits.
