GFU runs away with 22-2 win in the Pine Bowl

SPOKANE, Wash. – League-leading George Fox outscored Whitworth 10-0 in the second quarter as the visiting Bruins ran away with a 22-2 lacrosse win over the Pirates on Sunday afternoon at the Pine Bowl.

George Fox improved to 9-3 overall and 8-0 in the Northwest Conference, while the Pirates fell to 9-4, 5-3.

The first half was decisive as the Bruins outshot the Bucs 22-8 and forced 13 turnovers from Whitworth, ten in the first period.  After leading 6-1 after one quarter, George Fox outscored the Pirates 10-0 in the second for a 16-1 lead at halftime.   The Bruins were especially dominant in free position attempts, converting 6-7 in the first half and 7-9 for the entire match.

Caitlin Smith scored Whitworth's first half goal and Rebecca Irwin tallied the Pirates' second half goal. 

Marena Tharpe led the visitors with five goals and one assist, while Ava Bluhm had four goals and an assist and Lana Davis tallied four goals.

Whitworth will look to rebound quickly when the Pirates host Whitman on Wednesday at 5:00 pm.
