SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth men's tennis wrapped up its 2024 season with a 6-3 loss to Lewis-Clark State on Saturday at the Scotford Tennis Center.
The Pirates (5-13, 3-4 NWC) had been eliminated from tournament contention going into the day, and in their season finale they fell short against the Warriors (12-11) for the second time this season, despite a brilliant day from Henry Preacher and Nathan Tjelle who together accounted for all three of the Pirates' points.
Whitworth managed to swipe one of the doubles matches thanks #1 Preacher and Tjelle's 8-7 (7-5) win over Itaru Kikuchi and Matus Rusnak. In singles, Tjelle got things rolling knocking off Rusnak in three sets 7-5, 7-5, 7-5. #3 Preacher came through with his second win, handling Austin Swing 6-4, 7-6 (10-8). Jess Weaver nearly got a win of his own but fell in three sets to #4 Nell Rollin 6-3, 6-1, 6-4.
The Pirates will return next winter for preseason matches.
