SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth women's tennis finished off a perfect weekend against two Oregon schools with a 5-4 win over visiting Lewis & Clark at the Scotford Tennis Center on Sunday.
The Pirates (5-4, 3-1 NWC) won both conference matches 5-4 this weekend and moved two games ahead of the Pioneers (3-6, 1-3 NWC) with today's win. Whitworth had not beaten L&C since March of 2018.
Whitworth took two of three doubles matches as #1 Gracie Smyley and Clara Todd knocked off Susanna Anand and Seraphina Vossen 8-6 and #3 Meredith Bedford and Jordan Turner handled Kacie Lau and Emma Loucks 8-4.
In singles, the Pirates recovered from losses in the #1 and #2 spot to win three straight and clinch the win. #3 Natalie Budge took down L&C's Loucks 6-2, 6-1, #4 Turner survived Arielle Bloom 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 to tie things up and #5 Todd clinched the win for Whitworth in two sets over Hayley Kreps 6-0, 7-6 (7-2).
Whitworth has won five of its last six (not including a pair of exhibition wins) and they will look to take that momentum on the road next weekend at Pacific and Willamette.
