SPOKANE, Wash. – Another week, almost another school record for Whitworth on Saturday at the Riverfront Invitational, hosted by Washington State University in the Podium.
Jordyn Lungo led the Pirate sprinters by coming within one one-hundredth of a second of the school record in the women's 60-meters with a personal record time of 7.84 in the qualifying heats. Amelia Hewson went 7.83 last season.
Alex Peters, who broke the school record in the 5000 meters last week, came within two seconds of another one on Saturday. Peters went 4:17.09 in the mile to set a new person record and take 17th place in the event. The school record, set last season by Adam Callahan, is 4:15.85. Matt Buckley went 4:26.07 in the same event for his own PR.
Isaac Akiyama added a personal record in the men's 3,000 meters with a time of 8:54.49, taking 16th place.
Whitworth also got several strong performances in the field. Breanne Rawls cleared 5'-3.25" in the women's high jump, while JJ Martin topped 6'-4" in the men's high jump.
Renee Tiumalu tossed the shot 41'-0.25" and Amblessed Okemgbo reached 38'-11" in the same event.
Whitworth will host its Indoor Invitational next weekend in the Podium.
