Lutes shut out Pirate women 2-0

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran Lutes stayed undefeated in Northwest Conference play with a 2-0 win over Whitworth in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Saturday afternoon.

The Pirates (11-5-2 overall, 9-4-2 NWC) have their six-game winning streak snapped as the Lutes (14-1-4, 13-0-2) capitalized on mistakes to take the win.

Pacific Lutheran got on the board in the 21st minute after Hannah Cecil netted a cross from Julia Causbie. The Lutes scored their second goal of the match in the 66th minute when the ball was deflected in the box, popped into the air and headed in by Ally Tattar.

Whitworth head coach Cameron Bushéy was happy with how the Pirates managed the game.

"We took good forward opportunities but couldn't find the back of the net," he said. "We also did a good job limiting good chances."

Bushéy highlighted a few missed tackles and a preventable corner kick that led to Pacific Lutheran's goals. "A lot was good, but mistakes were the difference," said Bushéy.

The Pirates finished the match with six shots, three of those being on target. Pacific Lutheran had 13 shots and six shots on-goal. Anna Boyer made four saves for the Pirates and Abby Winkler made three saves for the Lutes.

The Pirates finish their season on Sunday when they host Puget Sound on senior day.
