Pirate women drop season finale 3-0

SPOKANE, Wash. – Consistent pressure and quality chances led to a 3-0 Puget Sound win over Whitworth in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Sunday afternoon.

The Pirates close the season with an 11-6-2 overall record and a 9-5-3 record in the NWC. The Loggers finish their season at 9-4-7 and 9-1-6 in conference play.

Puget Sound's first goal came in the eighth minute when Leila Hausia-Haugen dribbled through three Pirate defenders and hooked the ball into the bottom corner of the net. Zoe Witter added a goal in the 41st minute for the Loggers after receiving a throw in, turning middle and firing the ball past the goalkeeper.

The Loggers took advantage of another quality chance in the 46th minute when Zoe Fowler crossed the ball to Emma Pack who pushed the score to 3-0. Whitworth would respond by out shooting Puget Sound in the second half (6-4) but could not find the back of the net.

Each team finished the match with five shots on goal, but Puget Sound showed to have more dangerous opportunities in netting three of those five shots. The Loggers would take nine total shots to the Pirates eight. Kiah Gary and Anna Boyer each made one save for Whitworth.

The Pirate women will be back in action next September.
