WALLA WALLA, Wash. – A second half goal from Whitworth's Yacine Bitibale was the difference in a 1-0 win over Whitman in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Wednesday evening.
The Pirates (8-4-2 overall, 6-3-2 NWC) get their third straight win and sweep the season series with the Blues (8-5-2, 5-4-2).
Whitworth broke the tie in the 77th minute when Madison Carr advanced the ball downfield to Yacine Bitibale, who netted her sixth goal of the season. Whitman pressured the Pirates down to the final whistle but were unable to get past Anna Boyer, who made nine saves.
The Blues outshot the Pirates 14-8 and had a 9-4 advantage in shots on-goal. Seven of Whitworth's eight shots came in the second half. Whitman was able to create 8 corner kicks but could not capitalize on set pieces.
The Pirates will look to make it four wins in a row on Saturday against Linfield in Spokane.
