TACOMA, Wash. — Whitworth men's soccer got on the board first but was unable to pull away from Puget Sound Saturday resulting in a 1-1 draw at Baker Stadium in Tacoma.
The Pirates went up 1-0 in the 20th minute after a foul in the box lead to a goal via penalty kick for Cole Friesen. It was the Friesen's 9th goal of the season and is the third consecutive match with a goal for the junior forward.
Puget Sound evened the score early in the second half as Shane Ivich assisted Liam Elliot on a goal in the 49th minute. The score would remain knotted at 1-1 for the remainder of the match despite the Pirates outshooting the Loggers 13-6 with a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal.
The Pirates have now played three straight 1-1 ties against Puget Sound.
Whitworth (6-3-2, 4-1-2 NWC) will now head across town to face Pacific Lutheran Sunday at noon. The Lutes (7-1-3, 5-0-2) have yet lose a conference match and are coming off a dominant 7-0 win at home vs Whitman Saturday afternoon.
