SPOKANE, Wash. – JoJo Anderson scored 20 points to lead four Pirates in double figures, Ty Edwards posted a career-high 16 points, and Whitworth racked up 53 points in the second half to pull away from Lewis & Clark 90-75 on Friday.
Anderson went into the locker room after the first half with no points on four attempts, and the Pirates led by just three. But the junior guard set the tone for Whitworth once again, sparking a teamwide scoring output that left the Pioneers in the dust.
Jake Holtz and Sullivan Menard added 17 and 16 points as Whitworth (8-5 overall, 4-0 NWC) won its 19th straight over Lewis & Clark (5-7 overall, 1-2 NWC) in a game they never trailed.
Menard got things going early with a pair of threes to help Whitworth to a 12-2 lead with 15:31 in the first half. The Pirates led by double digits two separate times during the first half, but Lewis & Clark stuck around.
Kody Uyegusi kept the Pioneers in it with a trio of deep threes, he finished the first half with 11 points but was held to just two in the second half as the Pirates pulled away.
A minute into the second half, Lewis & Clark had a prime chance to take their first lead of the game. Trailing 37-36 Sebastian DePerez' shot was too strong inside, and Whitworth didn't give the Pioneers another chance to take the lead.
Anderson rattled off seven points (his first of the game) to fuel a 20-6 run for Whitworth to give them a 57-42 lead.
With 6:19 to go Edwards scored six during a 10-2 run that put the Pirates in front 80-59, their largest of the night.
Whitworth shot 54.1% from the field and hit 20 of 26 from the line in its second highest scoring total of the year. The Pirates will be on the road next against George Fox who has yet to lose a conference game.
