MOSCOW, Idaho – A small contingent of Whitworth track and field athletes made their mark on Friday and Saturday at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open hosted by the University of Idaho in the Kibbie Dome.
Solo Hines posted another record-breaking performance for the Pirates, finishing second in the men's 200-meter dash with a new school-record time of 21.68. He beat his own previous record of 22.20, set last season, and his mark is the sixth-best in Division III this season.
Daniel Watts and Eli Cach competed in the men's heptathlon. Watts put up a score of 4,253 that ranks 21st in DIII so far this season. Meanwhile Bree Rawls scored 3,177 points to take sixth place in the women's pentathlon. She cleared 5'-3.75" in the high jump for her best event and her score ranks sixth in DIII.
Several first-year Pirates posted some fast times. Cooper Rolfs went 51.31 to finish 12th in the men's 400-meter dash. Lily Jones finished ninth in the women's 800-meters in 2:24.83, while Emily Brown went 1:01.77 in the women's 400.
Amelia Hewson reached the finals of the women's 60-meter hurdles, finishing seventh in 9.00. She was also 18th in the prelims of the 60-meter dash (8.09). Alison Ball finished 18th in the prelims of the women's 200 (25.88).
