SPOKANE, Wash. – Solo Hines led a small contingent of Whitworth Pirates opened the 2024 Indoor Track and Field season on Saturday at the Spokane Indoor Challenge, hosted in the Podium in downtown Spokane.
Hines won the men's 60-meter dash with a time of 6.81, the second-best time in Division III this season. He had qualified third to the finals after going 6.88 in the prelims.
Other highlights included Isaac Akiyama taking seventh place in the men's mile run (4:26.10) and Abby Crossly finishing seventh in the 3,000 meters (11:09.22). Lucas Paul, Cameron Lantagne, Cooper Rolfs and Akiyama finished sixth in the men's 4x400 relay with a time of 3:31.16.
Whitworth was one of the few Division III programs at a meet dominated by NCAA Division I and II programs from the west coast.
The Pirates will be back in action next weekend at the Lauren McClusky Open hosted by the University of Idaho.
