SALEM, Ore. – Baylee Trejo's goal in the 70th minute lifted visiting Whitworth to a 2-1 win over Willamette in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Saturday afternoon.
The Pirates (2-4-3 overall, 2-3 NWC) won their second straight match while the Bearcats dropped to 0-6-2, 0-3-1.
Willamette looked poised to pick up its first win when the Bearcats scored first in the 22nd minute. Natalie Rodriguez-De La Torre scored from an assist by Sophie Cleland on a counter attack.
Lily Parker tied the match seven minute later when she scored her first goal of the season from an assist by Addison Dizard. The goal came off a scramble in front of the goal following a free kick.
Trejo created her own game-winning goal by pressing the Willamette goalkeeper and stealing the ball in the penalty area. She scored from nine yards away.
Whitworth outshot Willamette 17-7, including a 12-3 edge in shots on-goal.
Kate Nelson made two saves to earn the win in goal for the Bucs. Siera Edwards stopped ten shots for the Bearcats.
The Pirates will conclude the weekend in Oregon with a match at Linfield on Sunday.
