Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Linfield holds off Whitworth's women 2-1

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Visiting Whitworth's comeback attempt came up short at Linfield on Sunday afternoon as the Pirates fell 2-1 to the Wildcats in a Northwest Conference women's soccer contest.

Whitworth (2-5-3 overall, 2-4 NWC) saw its modest two-game winning streak come to an end.  Linfield improved to 4-3-3, 2-2-3.

The Wildcats got on the board quickly when Riley Omonaka converted a penalty kick in the ninth minute.  Anna Dazey made it 2-0 in favor of the hosts with an unassisted goal in the 16th minute.  Linfield outshot the Bucs 5-2 in the first 45 and all five shots were on-target.

Whitworth turned the momentum in the second half and got on the board when Laura Pierson scored from an assist by Baylee Trejo in the 59th minute.  It was Pierson's first goal of the season.

The Pirates continued to pressure the Linfield net and Pierson nearly had an equalizing goal in the 83rd minute with a shot from outside the box.  Wildcat keeper Emilee Miller got a hand on the ball to keep it out of the net.

Whitworth outshot Linfield 7-2 in the second half.

Kate Nelson made four saves for the Pirates.

Whitworth returns home to host Lewis & Clark and George Fox next weekend.
