SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth women's soccer team opened the 2023 season with a scoreless draw against visiting Luther College on Friday afternoon at the Whitworth soccer field.
The Pirates outshot the visiting Norse 10-4, including a 4-1 edge in shots on-goal, but could not get a ball past either Ken Vavrichek or Irelyn Baumberger, who played 45 minutes apiece.
Kate Nelson only had to make one save to post her 17th shutout as Whitworth's goalkeeper.
The Pirates will host Howard Payne University on Sunday at noon.
