SPOKANE, Wash. - Visiting Howard Payne handed Whitworth a 1-0 setback in a non-conference women's soccer match on Sunday afternoon at the Whitworth soccer field. 

The Yellow Jackets improved to 1-1 this season while the Pirates dropped to 0-1-1.

After more than 80 scoreless minutes, Kiana Chastain tallied the match-winner on a counter attack up the middle.  Sarah Krusing had the assist.

Whitworth seemed to control much of the match, outshooting the Yellow Jackets 13-7 and holding a 60-40 edge in possession percentage.

Emily Williamson and Chandler Sorrell combined to make five saves in goal for HPU.  Kate Nelson made four saves for the Pirates.

Whitworth will travel to Walla Walla next weekend for neutral location non-conference matches against Corban and UC Santa Cruz.
