SPOKANE, Wash. – Cole Friesen scored three goals to lead Whitworth to a dominating 7-0 victory over visiting Walla Walla University in the men's soccer season opener for both schools on Friday afternoon at the Whitworth Soccer Field.

Lucas Joehnk had a goal and an assist as the Pirates (1-0) outshot the Wolves (0-1) 24-0, 14-0 in shots on-goal.

Whitworth scored three goals in the first 11 minutes of the match.  Jordan Voigt headed in a long cross from Joehnk in the third minute before Friesen tallied his first goal less than a minute later, putting back his own saved shot.

Johnny Finnegan made it 3-0 in the 11th minute with an unassisted shot to the lower left corner.  Friesen scored his second of the match in the 20th minute, heading in a shot cross from Dominic Gusman.

Joehnk scored with a laser shot from a left side angle in the 30th minute for the final goal of the first half.

Whitworth continued to control possession throughout the rest of the match.  Eric Shaporda scored in the 71st minute by putting back his own shot.  Friesen took advantage of a defensive giveaway to tally his hat trick in the 85th minute.
