SPOKANE, Wash. – Defending Northwest Conference champion George Fox swept a travel-weary Whitworth men's tennis team on Saturday at the Scotford Tennis Center.
The Pirates (8-11 overall, 4-4 NWC) took the courts against the Bruins (8-9, 5-0) only 16 hours after leaving a win at Puget Sound on Friday evening.
GFU won all three doubles matches. The closest contest came at #2 where the Bruin pair of Hunter Fujimori and Lars Schmassmann edged Whitworth's Nathan Tjelle and Ethan Warring by a single break at 8-5.
None of the singles matches went three sets. Tjelle played the closest contest at #1, falling 6-4, 6-3 to Eli Mizerski. GFU's Austin Stone beat Warring 6-4, 6-1 at #2.
Whitworth's match with Pacific Lutheran, scheduled for April 15, has been cancelled because the Lutes discontinued their program mid-season. The Pirates will conclude the year with an exhibition contest against visiting Bellevue CC on April 16th at 11:00 am.
