FOREST GROVE, Ore – Pacific University outpaces visiting Whitworth 11-7 in the regular season baseball finale for both schools on Sunday afternoon. The non-conference game featured a pair of Northwest Conference opponents.
The Pirates finish the season 11-27 overall while the Boxers, who were NWC regular season champions, improved to 25-13.
The two offenses combined for 27 hits, but it was the Boxers that outraced the Pirates to the finish line.
Pacific's Isacc Lovings doubled for two RBI's to right center in the first inning to get things started.
Whitworth tied the game in the second with RBI singles from Elijah Tanner and Jacob Doughty.
In the third inning CJ Colyer doubled for an RBI to left center and Matt Gibbs followed with an RBI single to give the Boxers a two-run lead over the Bucs'. Lovings hit a solo homer to right field in the fifth inning to tack on one more run.
Doughty recorded his second RBI in the sixth inning on a double to right field and Dawson Warner followed with an RBI single to pull the Pirates within 5-4.
Pacific was able to plate six runs in the sixth inning, which included a Gibbs' three-run home run.
Whitworth tried to claw back in it in the seventh with three more runs but were ultimately unable to make up the deficit. Tanner had an RBI double in the rally.
Kahi Bisho (4-0) started for the Boxers and he went 5.2 innings while allowing three earned runs and 11 hits.
The Pirates started Hunter Dryden who allowed four runs and six hits through four innings. In relief was Hunter Williams (1.2 IP, 5 H, 7 ER), Landon Shigeta (1.1 IP, 2 H), and Aidan Smith (1 IP, 1 H).
The Bucs recorded 13 hits in the game and were led offensively by Doughty's 3 for 4, two RBI performance.
