Whitworth falls 3-1 to Whitman in series finale

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Whitworth fell to Whitman 3-1 in the final game of a Northwest Conference series on Wednesday at Borleske Field. The game was rescheduled from its original late February date after inclement weather.

Beck Maguire homered as part of a two-run sixth inning for Whitman, breaking a 1-1 tie and pushing the Blues past the Bucs.

Whitworth starting pitcher Jack Leary was perfect through the first three innings of the game.

The scoreboard remained empty until the fourth inning when Whitman's Teague Conder hit a sacrifice fly to center field scoring Maguire.

The Pirates tied up the game in the fifth inning after Jacob Doughty singled to center field, scoring Aaron Clogston.

The Blues' broke the 1-1 tie in the sixth inning after a solo home run from Maguire, and Conder singled for his second RBI of the game. The Bucs' were unable to score in the late innings.

The Blues' starting pitcher Julian Hernandez (7-1) went seven innings and allowed one run on just six hits. Mateus Conway threw two hitless innings of relief and was awarded the save.
