FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Despite competing with less than half of its roster, the Whitworth track and field team won its share of events on Saturday at the Pacific University Open.
The Pirate men won four events, while the women won three. There were several other lifetime PRs posted as well.
Solo Hines led the way by sweeping the men's 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. His time of 10.72 in the 100 is a PR and ranks among the top-20 in NCAA Division III this season. He just missed his PR by .05 with a time of 21.76 in the 200 dash.
Daniel Watts won the men's 400-meter hurdles with his own personal record of 56.40. James Dugenet won the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:57.40. Alex Peters (10:12.94) was second.
Adam Callahan was the runner-up in the men's 1,500-meter run with his personal record of 3:55.42. He also was fourth in the 800-meters in 1:58.60.
In the field events, Cody Wheeler finished second in the javelin throw (201'-1"). Zaanan Bane posted a PR with his fourth-place finish in the long jump (21'-3.5").
Alison Ball won the women's 200-meters with a time of 25.95. Jordyn Lungo was third in the same event with her PR of 26.20. Lungo also took fourth in the 100-meters (12.81).
Madelyn Buckley was third in the women's 800-meters with a time of 2:24.50.
Renee Tiumalu and AbbieJo Carlson continued to dominate their throwing specialties. Tiumalu won the women's shot put for the fourth time this season with a mark of 41'-8.75". She was also fourth in the discus (123'-9").
Carlson won the women's hammer throw with a distance of 153'-10". It was her third win in that event this season.
The Pirates return home to host the Whitworth Peace Meet on Friday, April 7th, one of the final tune ups before the Northwest Conference Championships on April 21st and 22nd.
