THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Sierra Witte poured in five goals to lead visiting Whitworth to a 13-3 non-conference lacrosse win at California Lutheran on Thursday night at William Rolland Stadium.
The Pirates (5-7) jumped to a 9-2 lead at halftime against the Regals (0-7).
Sage Fosnock stopped ten of the 13 shots on-goal by CLU as Whitworth set a team record for fewest goals allowed by an opponent.
The match was tied 1-1 through the first six minutes before the Pirates began to pull away. Witte scored her first two goals to give the Bucs a lead they would not give up again. Liliann Penfield and Nikki Beers scored to give Whitworth a 5-1 lead at the end of the first.
Meghan Angus scored her second goal of the match to pull CLU within 5-2 at the beginning of the second. Megan Whitman and Witte scored goals 11 second apart to extend the advantage to 7-2. Grace Curley and Rebecca Irwin tallied the final two goals of the half for the Bucs.
Whitman and Witte scored the only goals of the third quarter. Witte tallied her fifth early in the fourth and Beers added her second for the Pirates' final goal.
The Pirates outshot CLU 39-17 and had a 15-6 advantage in draw controls. Whitman had five draw controls and Witte had four.
Whitworth will complete its swing through Southern California with a match at Occidental on Friday night.
