MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – Whitworth's Hunter Dryden tossed over six innings of one-run baseball to lead the visiting Pirates to a 2-1 win over Linfield in the finale of a Northwest Conference series at Roy Helser Field on Sunday.
Whitworth improved to 6-11 overall and 3-3 in the NWC while Linfield fell to 7-9 overall and 4-5 NWC.
The Pirates were first to jump on the board with one run in the second inning. Tim Gee led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a pass ball. Cameron Ley's fly ball to right field was enough to advance Gee to third before Ty Komoda singled home Gee for a 1-0 lead.
Linfield responded by tying the game 1-1 in the third inning when Branden Pasion hit a sacrifice fly to right field allowing Braden Woods to score from third base. The Pirates doubled up Danny Kahn trying to advance to second on the play to end the inning.
Ley regained the lead for the Bucs' in the fourth inning when he singled to left field scoring Aidan Morrison from third base. Neither team scored again.
