McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Defending Northwest Conference champion Linfield, fresh off its first conference loss in 37 matches, defeated visiting Whitworth 9-0 in an NWC women's tennis contest on Saturday.
The Wildcats improved to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the NWC while the Pirates dropped to 4-4, 1-2.
After losing to Whitman on Friday to end a 36-match conference winning streak, Linfield started this contest quickly with a sweep of the doubles. Natalie Budge and Elizabeth Hopkins played the closest contest, losing 8-2 at #2 doubles to Taryn Fujimori and Emma Tuttle.
Only one of the six singles matches went more than one set, where Linfield's Ponti rallied to defeat Hopkins 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) at #6 singles. Olivia Corbett fell 6-4, 6-1 to Allena Wong at #4 singles.
Whitworth concludes the weekend with a match at Lewis & Clark on Sunday.
