SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth put together a top-20 time in NCAA Division III in the men's distance medley relay over the weekend, highlighting the Pirates' performances at the Washington State Open Thursday through Saturday at the Podium.
Adam Callahan, Matt Buckley, Kainoa Figueira and Alex Peters put together a time of 10:27.73 in the men's distance medley relay, which finished third in the meet. That time also now ranks 19th in NCAA Division III.
JJ Martin also improved his mark in the men's heptathlon, posting a score of 4,616, which now ranks 23rd in Division III. Martin also posted season-best marks in the high jump (6'-1.25") and the pole vault (13'-2.25").
It wasn't a season-best, but Solo Hines made the finals of the men's 60-meter dash and finished seventh with a time of 6.89. He went 6.81 in the preliminaries, which would was his previous-best time until he went 6.71 last week.
Other season-best marks for Whitworth's men over the weekend included Figueira in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 51.31. James Dugenet went 15:43.71 in the 5,000-meters and Zaanan Bane sprinted to a time of 8.92 in the 60-meter hurdles.
Luke Davis tossed the shot put 49'-8.25".
Madelyn Buckley went 5:18.01 in the women's mile, the best mark of the year for the Pirates and her person-best time.
Whitworth will host its own invitational next weekend at the Podium.
