Sagehens complete series sweep of the Pirates

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Visiting Whitworth took an early lead in both games of Saturday's non-conference baseball doubleheader, but host Pomona-Pitzer won each game to sweep the three-game series.  The Sagehens won Saturday's first game 15-5 and the second 10-7 in a game called after seven innings due to darkness.

Whitworth (0-3) will conclude its season-opening trip to Southern California with a single game at La Verne on Sunday.

Game 1: Pomona-Pitzer 15, Whitworth 5
The Pirates took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the third, but the Sagehens scored five in the third and steadily pulled away.

Zach Tincher had a two-run double and Austin Paul followed with a two-out, two-run single in Whitworth's four-run second inning.

Isaac Kim started Pomona-Pitzer's rally in the third with a three-run home run.  After the Sagehens took the lead, Tincher pulled Whitworth back within 6-5 with another RBI double.  But the Pirates would not score again in the game.
