Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Dewey's double-double not enough in loss to Tigers

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Kimberly Dewey posted Whitworth's first double-double of the season, but it was not enough to prevent Whitworth from losing its sixth straight women's basketball game on Friday night to Colorado College at the Whit Classic hosted by Whitman College.  The Tigers topped the Pirates (1-6) 66-44 by shooting 49% from the field and forcing 21 turnovers.

Colorado College (5-2) led 17-10 after one quarter before Whitworth got within 24-20 midway through the second on a three-pointer by Emma Maxwell.  But the Tigers closed the quarter on an 11-5 run for a 35-25 halftime lead.  They continued to pull away in the third, outscoring the Pirates 17-5 to lead 52-31 heading to the final period.

Dewey scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Whitworth's first double-double of the season.  She was the only Pirate in double figures in scoring as four other players finished with six points apiece.  The Pirates made 32.7% of their shots from the field and only 10.5% of their three-pointers (2-19).

Zoe Tomlinson scored 20 points for Colorado College.  The Tigers made 29 of 59 shots from the field and finished with a 36-28 edge in rebounds.

Whitworth will try to break out of the skid on Saturday when the Pirates take on Schreiner University to conclude the Whit Classic.
