SPOKANE, Wash. - Kevin Moon is no longer the interim head coach for Whitworth men's soccer.  He is simply the head coach, according to Tim Demant, Whitworth's Director of Athletics.

"Having known Kevin for many years, and seeing him in training sessions, on the sideline, and interacting with players at the club level, I was very confident Kevin could jump right in and lead this team to contending for a Northwest Conference title," Demant said.  "Having now seen Kevin leading this team, he is everything I expected and more, and the perfect person to lead our men's soccer program going forward."

In his first season as an interim head coach, Moon guided the Pirates to a 12-4-4 overall record, including a 10-2-4 mark in the NWC.  Whitworth finished as the conference runners-up.  Statistically, the Pirates finished second in the NWC in goals per game (2.75) and in goals allowed per game (1.35).  Along the way, Cole Friesen led the conference in goals (24), game-winning goals (5) and total points (58).  His goal total was a school record.

"Kevin has a unique combination of excellent soccer knowledge, incredible love for, and ability to connect to, his players, and a great mission fit for Whitworth," Demant said.  "I am excited to see the impact Kevin will have on the players and this team moving forward."
