Whitworth men close season with 3-0 win at L&C

SPOKANE, Wash – Cole Friesen scored two first half goals on two assists from Clayton Crockett and Whitworth closed out its season with a 3-0 win at Lewis & Clark on Sunday.

The Pirate attack struck early, scoring all three goals in the first half against a Pioneer defense that's given up 79 goals this season. Christian Pumpelly scored in the 6th minute on an assist from Eric Shaporda, and then Friesen and Crockett helped Whitworth run away.

In the 16th and 43rd minute Crockett found Friesen who buried his 24th and 25th goals of the year into the bottom left and bottom right corner to put Whitworth (12-4-4 overall, 10-2-4 NWC) up three goals at halftime.

Crockett leads the team with eight assists this season, he's racked up four of those in the last three matches.

The Pirates outshot Lewis & Clark (0-19-1 overall, 0-15-1 NWC) 23-13 and 13-2 in shots on goal but were held without a goal in the second half.

Friesen will finish the season as the NWC's leader in goals (25) and points (53), and he scored five goals in two games against the Pioneers. His 53 points on the year leaves him one short of tying Whitworth's program points record which is currently held by John Gould (54).

Whitworth will be back in September of 2024 for their season opener.
