SPOKANE, Wash. – Addison Dizard gave the Pirates control with a first minute goal, Kylee Russell extended the lead in the first minute of the second half, and Whitworth won it's fourth straight beating George Fox 2-1 in Newburg on Saturday.
Dizard gave the Pirates (9-6-4 overall, 9-5-1 NWC) their quick start finding the back of the net unassisted in the 1st minute and they never looked back. Kylee Russell set the tone to start the second half, scoring a 46th minute goal on an Emmy Moore assist to put Whitworth up 2-0 on the road.
Whitworth managed to finish the season sweep of the Bruins on the back of those two quick-strike goals, and the effort of Faith Rempfer and Paige Broadrick who tallied 10 saves to preserve the win.
George Fox (6-9-4, 4-8-3 NWC) has lost two straight going into their season finale on Sunday. The Bruins had the advantage in total shots (19-8), shots on goal (11-3), and corner kicks (8-1) yet they never led.
Alexis Breer cut the deficit in half with an 86th minute goal to make things interesting in the final moments, but it was too little too late.
Whitworth will take on Lewis & Clark on Sunday at 11:00 in their season finale, one point out of third place Whitman. George Fox will finish their season at home against the Blues on Sunday.
