SPOKANE, Wash. – Baylee Trejo scored her fourth goal of the season on an assist from Addison Dizard in the 19th minute to lift Whitworth over Willamette 1-0 on Sunday.
The Pirates controlled the match from the kickoff despite missing a few scoring chances early, but in the 19th Dizard's shot from the left side was deflected off the hands of Bearcat keeper Siera Edwards and right to the foot of Trejo to give Whitworth (8-6-4 overall, 8-5-1 NWC) the game's loan goal.
The Pirates outshot Willamette (2-12-4 overall, 3-9-2 NWC) 9-5 and 4-2 in shots on goal on the way to their third consecutive win, and a season sweep over Willamette.
Senior Faith Rempfer started in favor of Kate Nelson and earned a shutout, tallying two saves.
The Pirates have won three straight matches 1-0 and scored first half goals in each of those wins. They've allowed just one goal in their last four matches.
The Bearcats threatened the Pirates late near the net with a couple of corners but could not find the late equalizer despite outshooting Whitworth 4-0 in the second half.
Whitworth will be on the road for their season finale against George Fox and Lewis & Clark while Willamette will wrap up their schedule at home against PLU and at Pacific.
