Friesen scores two more in 3-1 win at Linfield

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Cole Friesen scored two more goals to lead visiting Whitworth to a 3-1 win over Linfield in a Northwest Conference men's soccer match on Sunday afternoon.

The Pirates improved to 6-3-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the NWC with their fourth straight victory and second straight road win.  The Bucs are now only one point behind Pacific Lutheran in the NWC standings.

Friesen scored the match's first goal in the 15th minute with Clayton Crockett getting the assist.

The Wildcats (1-6-3, 1-3-2) tied the match in the 33rd minute on a goal by Seamus Miller.  But Friesen scored again just before halftime to give the Bucs a lead they would not relinquish.  Christian Pumpelly had the assist.

Eric Shaporda scored his fourth goal of the season in the first minute of the second half to give Whitworth insurance.  Crockett had his second assist of the game.

Friesen is tied for the lead in the NWC with 11 goals this season.  Three of those goals were match-winners.

The Pirates finished with a 15-5 advantage in shots, including a 6-1 edge in shots on-goal.

Whitworth returns home to host Lewis & Clark and George Fox next weekend.
