SPOKANE, Wash. – This time Solo Hines saved his best for the final and it paid off in a big way on Saturday at the Inland Northwest Invitational, hosted by Whitworth track and field at the Podium.

Last week Hines set a school record in qualifying heats of the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.81, then went slightly slower in the finals.  This week Hines went a little slower in qualifying, then blistered the track for a time of 6.71 to win the finals of the 60 dash.  The winning time is not only a Whitworth indoor record, it is the fifth fastest time in NCAA Division III history.

Hines has virtually assured himself a spot at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships this March in Birmingham, Alabama.

Other highlights for the Pirates on Saturday include Amelia Hewson's runner-up finish in the 60-meter hurdles.  She went 8.94 in the finals, which is only .05 off her school-record time.

Monica Kaylor took third place in the women's high jump by clearing 5'-1.75".

Madelyn Buckley finished ninth in the women's mile with a time of 5:22.99.

Kainoa Figueira was the runner-up in the men's 800-meters with a time of 1:57.58.  Marc Dugenet was fourth in the 5,000 meters with time of 16:14.50, while Adam Callahan was fifth in the mile (4:23.89).  Alex Peters took sixth in the 3,000-meter run in 8:57.65.

Whitworth's men had some strong field events as well.  Riley Flanagan was third in the long jump (21'-11"), JJ Martin was fourth in the high jump (6'-1.25") and Zaanan Bane was fourth in the triple jump (42'-11.75").  Luke Davis (48'-2.5") and Reed Hurst (46'-4.25") were fifth and eighth, respectively, in the shot put.
