MOSCOW, Idaho – The Whitworth University track & field teams competed at the Vandal Open and Lauren McCluskey Multi Event Invitational this weekend on the campus of the University of Idaho and came away with several strong individual showings.
JJ Martin and Breanne Rawls competed in the heptathlon and pentathlon, respectively. Martin scored 4503 points to finish 10th in the indoor heptathlon. More importantly, his score ranks 10th in NCAA Division III. Rawls scored 2977 points to finish 11th in the pentathlon on Friday. That mark is currently 12th in DIII.
Solo Hines and Amelia Hewson had the best individual finishes among Whitworth's competitors on Saturday. Hines sprinted to a 4th place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.87. He went 6.81 in the preliminaries on Friday, which ranks 7th (tied) in DIII. Hewson finished 5th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.90. That time ranks 8th in DIII.
Kainoa Figueira finished 8th in the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.94.
The Pirates had a couple of strong field performances as well. Samson Irish-Lodge finished 8th in the triple jump with a mark of 41'-3.75". Renee Tiumalu was 10th in the shot put with a distance of 40'-8.25".
Whitworth will be back in action next Saturday in the Podium at the Inland Northwest Invitational, a meet the Pirates host.
