SPOKANE, Wash. – Visiting Lewis & Clark stole a 1-0 Northwest Conference women's soccer victory at Whitworth on Sunday afternoon.
The Pirates (1-3-1 overall, 1-1 NWC) dominated possession and shots, but the Pioneers (2-2-1, 2-0) took advantage of an early counter attack to net the match's only goal.
Whitworth outshot L&C 4-1 in the early going. But that one shot for L&C was a counter attack header from Celeste Schreifels from a cross by Sofia Congram.
The Pirates continued to get the better of the opportunities throughout the match, outshooting the Pioneers 18-9, including an 11-5 edge in shots on-goal. Whitworth had 60% of possession.
Sophie Young made 11 saves for L&C while Kate Nelson stopped three shots for the Bucs.
