Unbeaten George Fox rolls past Whitworth 21-3

SPOKANE, Wash. – Carleigh DeLapp scored seven goals and added three assists to lead visiting George Fox to a 21-3 win over Whitworth in a Northwest Conference lacrosse match on Saturday afternoon at the Pine Bowl.

The defending NWC champion Bruins (15-0 overall, 10-0 NWC) remained unbeaten in 2022, while the Pirates dropped to 5-10, 3-8.  Whitworth will conclude its season on Sunday against Linfield at 1:00 pm.

George Fox took command of the game in the first period, outscoring the Pirates 8-1 while holding a 13-2 advantage in shots.  GFU also had a 7-3 edge in draw controls and forced six Whitworth turnovers, allowing the visitors to dominate possession.  DeLapp had three of the first quarter goals, while Marena Tharpe and Lyla Roy each had two.  Anna Chase got the Pirates on the board late in the quarter.

The Bruin outscored the Bucs 5-1 in the second, leading to a running clock after going ahead 12-2.  Tharpe and DeLapp each scored twice and Delapp had two assists in the quarter.  Shots were more even (9-8 in favor of GFU), as were draw controls (3-3).  Rebecca Irwin scored in the second period for Whitworth.

Chase scored again for the Pirates in the third period, increasing her season total to 24 goals, while DeLapp added two more to her total.  The Bruins outscored the Bucs to extend their lead to 16-3.

George Fox shut out Whitworth 5-0 in the final period.  Delapp scored two more goals to give her 53 for the season. 

Sage Fosnock and Hannah Lew split time in goal for Whitworth.  Lew allowed nine goals and made four saves, while Fosnock gave up 12 goals and made five stops.

Ella Rand started in goal for GFU and allowed two goals while making five saves.  Emma Webb played the second half and only allowed one goal against four saves.

The Bruins finished with a 39-19 edge in shots.  They forced 15 Pirate turnovers.
