McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Visiting Whitworth rolled to its third Northwest Conference men's tennis win of the season with a 9-0 shutout at Linfield on Sunday.
The Pirates improved to 3-14 overall and 3-3 in the NWC while the Wildcats dropped to 3-12, 1-7.
Whitworth won all three doubles matches. The closest contest came at #3 doubles where Payton Romey and Cameron Brewer won by a single break (8-5) over Abraham Solomon and Alexandre Collard. Jonathan Hutley and Ethan Warring at little trouble, winning 8-3 at #2 doubles. Ethan Violette and Nathan Tjelle won 8-4 at #1 doubles.
Only two of the singles matches went more than two sets. Hutley beat Matous Young 6-4, 6-1 at #2 singles, while Warring rolled 6-3, 6-2 over Isaac Milner at #3 singles. Violette pulled out a 7-6 (8-6), 3-6, 1-0 (11-9) win over Rogue Stone at #1 singles. Brewer won the other match that went past two sets, 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (10-4) at #6 singles.
Whitworth returns home to host Willamette and Pacific next weekend in the finale matches of the season.
