WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Madison Perry scored five goals, but Whitworth was defeated by Corban University 18-6 in the 2022 lacrosse opening game for the Pirates at the WhitLax Classic on Saturday at Whitman College. 

Whitworth will take on Eastern Oregon on Sunday afternoon.

Neither team scored in the opening quarter.  But Corban's offense came alive in the second period with 11 goals.  Kylee Walker scored her first goal of the season to get the Pirates within 2-1 two and a half minutes into the quarter.  Corban then scored five straight goals to go ahead 7-1.  Josie Brence and Sydney Davie each had three of those first seven for the Warriors.

Perry did what she could to keep her team in it, scoring four of the game's next five goals to pull her team within 8-5 halfway through the second quarter.  Perry's final goal made the score 10-6 with 2:40 left and Davis added a final goal for Corban to give the Warriors an 11-6 lead at halftime.

Whitworth's offense went dry in the second half.  The Warriors tacked on three goals in the third period and four more in the fourth to steadily pull away.

Shots were even at 26-26, but the Warriors had more success finding the net.  Sage Fosnock was credited with five saves for Whitworth.
