Pirate men roll past Pioneers 9-1

PORTLAND, Ore.— The visiting Whitworth Pirates cruised past the Lewis & Clark Pioneers 9-1 in a non-conference match on Friday evening.

Whitworth (8-7-2, 5-5-1 NWC) dominated Lewis & Clark (0-6) offensively the entirety of the match with eight different players finding the back of the net.

The Pirates took a quick 2-0 lead over the Pioneers off a goal by Jordan Voigt in the 10th minute and Tycen Santos in the 13th minute. Eli Lewis was credited with an assist. 

The scoring continued for the Pirates with Jett Manglona scoring in the 18th minute and Voigt finding his second goal of the match in the 33rd minute. Voigt, Eric Shaporda, and Benjamin Hippauf were each credited with assists.

Victor Loyola found the back of the net off a pass from Shaporda in the 42nd to give Whitworth a 5-0 lead at half.  

The Pirates could not be stopped in the second half, scoring four additional goals.

Beckett Arthur scored in the 49th minute, Shaporda in the 58th, and Christian Pumpelly in the 87th. Shaporda was credited with an assist.

In the 89th minute, Voigt connected with Jacob Janzen who scored the ninth Pirate goal of the match.

Lewis & Clark's Ben Schwartz scored off a penalty kick in the 90th minute to put the Pioneers on the board. 

The Pirates outshot the Pioneers 35-3 in total shots taken and 26-3 in shots on goal.

Goalkeeper Ben Tallent had 15 saves for Lewis & Clark. Aiden Chase had two for Whitworth. 

Whitworth will play next on Saturday at 2:30 PM at George Fox.
