SPOKANE, Wash. – Rylee Fischer scored the only goal of the match in the 50th minute to lift Whitworth to a win over visiting Pacific (Ore.) in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Sunday afternoon.
The Pirates (5-6-4 overall, 5-4-3 NWC) are 4-0-2 in their last six matches and reversed the 1-0 loss to the Boxers (5-7-3, 2-7-3) earlier this season.
Neither team scored in the opening half, but Whitworth was the only team with chances to get on the board. The Pirates outshot Pacific 16-0 in the opening period, including 4-0 in shots on-target. Kylie Pascual stopped all four attempts for the Boxers.
Emma Foulk set up Fischer's first goal of the season with a crossing pass that Fischer chested into the lower left corner of the net.
Kate Nelson only had to make a single save to post her fifth shutout of the season, as Foulk and the Whitworth defense limited Pacific's scoring chances. The Pirates finished with a 25-3 advantage in shots, 8-1 in shots on target.
Pascual made seven saves in the match for Pacific.
Whitworth will head to the Tacoma area next weekend for contests at league-leading Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran.
